Behind-the-Scenes of Creating Custom, Made-to-Order Window Treatments
When I make a window treatment, care is taken in every step of the process. I don't line up hundreds of yards of fabric and make hundreds of panels at a time. Each treatment is handmade, with attention to detail you won't find in a retail product.
Step #1: Initial Consultation & Design Considerations
The first problem Deborah ran into, was that the drapery was too long and too skimpy. She measured the window herself and ordered some panels. Easy enough, right? When you order custom window treatments, I will measure the window and take into consideration all of the little things that can affect the final look. I will figure out how long the rod really needs to be so you can maximize the amount of glass still showing when the treatment is open.
Step #2: Custom Craftsmanship & Workroom Assembly
Then it is back to the workroom where I inspect the fabric when it arrives looking for any flaws that I need to work around. Care is taken to ensure panels don't smile at the bottom hem. They will have drapery weights to make sure they hang properly. The pattern on the fabric will be matched perfectly: no leaves coming out of the side of half of a flower. The right lining, and interlining if needed, will be paired with the fabric. Seams and hemlines will not be obvious, since stitch lines will not be visible on the front or sides. All of these details take time, so once I start a treatment, it can take a week or two to create the treatment depending on how large it is. Creating custom treatments not only takes extra time, it takes paying attention to details. It takes skill.
Step #3: Treatment Delivery & Professional Installation
Finally, I will coordinate a professional installer to install the treatment at the right height, and I will also be onsite to help with any issues that arise at installation. When you come into the room for the final reveal once they are installed, you will truly see the difference between having done it yourself by buying something from a retail shop versus having a custom luxury treatment. You can spot the difference from across the room. They are the right size; they are full, definitely not skimpy looking. They will be like no other window treatment out there.
