How Window Treatments Have Changed Due to Recent Safety Laws
In the past cords on window treatments posed a hazard, especially to young children and to pets. Laws became more stringent on the usage of cords in treatments, but custom window treatments could still have cords. In June 2024 new laws went into effect that required even custom-made treatments to eliminate free hanging cords.
Our Simplified Version of the Legal Stuff
Starting in June 2024, all window coverings either had to be cordless or have approved tension devices to eliminate free-hanging cords. The result is that many shades made a few years ago are no longer deemed safe, and need updating. Today, shades must be controlled by either a chain cord loop that is under tension, a rigid wand, a motor, or a spring system. The down side is that this does make roman shades more expensive, but they also now operate more smoothly and are much safer.
Our New and Improved Products & Process
We have you covered though. We have researched and found the best mechanisms to offer to our clients. We will be sharing more on our preferred choices soon. Of course there are limitations of each system, but we will guide you through picking the appropriate option for your needs.
Our Ongoing Commitment to Your Safety
With these new standards, now is the time to make sure the shades you put up a year ago are up to date. It's not difficult to make changes to an an existing shade that has a cord loop or hanging chain. Most headrails can be retrofitted. All shades can be restrung and upgraded to a compliant system. This also is a great opportunity to put in a whole new shade or to upgrade a shade to use a motor. With the new laws, more motorized options are becoming available and at better price points. There are also home integrations that increase not only convenience, but security too.
If you have old corded treatments, this is a great time to do the upgrade!
