Why Custom Window Treatments are Superior to Retail (& How We Make Them)
Retail window treatments rarely fit a window the way they should. Either they are not the right size, not full enough, or not quite the right fabric. This is where custom window treatments come in. There is a process in creating the perfect window treatment: understanding its design, construction, and finally installation.
Step #1: Initial Consultation & Design Considerations
When meeting a client to discuss window treatments, fabric is just one small part of the decision. The style and purpose are forefront. It is key to know why the treatment is needed (privacy, light control, or purely decorative). Pictures are worth a thousand words, and having a picture of the look you're going for helps use create a pattern for making the treatment. Finally, if a treatment is functional, we have to determine how you want it to open and close as well, as this affects hardware decisions. Motorization is another option that can be discussed at the initial consultation
Step #2: Custom Craftsmanship & Workroom Assembly
The first step in assembly is taking good measurements. You are welcome to take your own measurements (I will give you specific instruction), or I can take them while on a site-visit to ensure the treatment will fit properly. Creating the actual treatment can take up to a week or more if it is complex or oversized. A larger, more considerable amount of the time is in the planning stages. First is the pattern creation or alteration and pattern placement on the fabric. Linings and hardware then are taken into consideration before construction can actually begin, paying special attention to the details of the design all along the way.
Step #3: Window Treatment Delivery & Professional Installation
When a treatment is completed and ready to be installed, a client can pick up the treatment and have their installer install it, or we can deliver it and arrange professional installation complete with dressing the window treatment.
